Welcome to the commission section. Whether you are a new customer wanting a unique bespoke painting or a corporate client wishing to commission unique work for your office space, here you can find all the information to answer the most important questions.

Why choose me?

I understand how important commissioning a painting is to you. After all, it is likely to be something that you will live with and cherish for the rest of your life, so there is nothing more important to me than that you are pleased with the outcome and that it lives up to all your expectations.

I have spent over forty years making and refining my art and specialised in oils since 2002. Throughout this time I have amassed a wealth of skills and knowledge, which I now bring to each new painting. This allows me to provide a flexible and diverse service that can be adapted to your requirements.

Most importantly, I am deeply passionate about each painting that I make. I put everything into it, and it becomes my sole focus.

My painting style is a fusion of realism and impressionism with luminous qualities, most evident in my atmospheric landscapes and seascapes. Some examples can be seen in the gallery section.

Once we agree on your commission, I guarantee it will be painted to the highest standard and will undoubtedly hold a special place for you.

Process (the commissioning procedure)

How I work
I like to work closely with my clients and take great care to ensure that we both know what the finished picture will look like and that we are happy with that before we begin. I aim to make this process as enjoyable and exciting as possible for us both.

Plan
First, I ask you to provide a main photograph of a scene or portrait subject and any additional photographs that might help to inform me. Once a design and size have been agreed upon, then the fun part can begin!

At this stage, I will request the first payment of 50% of the total commission so that materials can be ordered and work can begin.

Making & Updates
Now for the fun part – the painting begins!
I like to work full days in a highly focused manner so I can immerse myself in the making of a painting. Depending on the commission size, I will provide updates and photographs of work in progress throughout each stage of the painting so you can see how your picture is coming along. By the end, you will not only get a unique personal work of art, but you will also get to see how I work and learn how it was created. So, not only do you get painted, but you will also get to keep this whole bespoke process and journey for future posterity to share with your interested family and friends, or if you are an organisation, to share with your colleagues.

Or, if you prefer not to spoil the surprise with updates, we can wait until the end of the big reveal. It’s entirely up to you!

Enjoyment
Finally, the exciting part! After the painting is completed, you will be asked to pay the remaining balance in full. Once it has had sufficient time to dry, it will be carefully wrapped and posted out for you to enjoy!

Time frame

The time it takes to make a painting varies depending on size and complexity, but it usually takes around 4 to 8 weeks to be painted and delivered; this generally gives enough time for the painting to dry so it can be shipped safely. Once we know the details of the commissioned piece, a more accurate estimate of the time frame will be given with the quote.

If you have a commission with a tight time frame, such as a gift for a wedding or anniversary, please let me know right away and I will see what I can do.

Do you have any specific ideas about the painting? Be sure to tell me what you’re thinking.
If you have a photograph of a person or scene, this will help me understand your ideas. Additional photographs containing details can also be helpful.
What size would you like your painting to be?
Is this a gift for a special occasion with a specific date and a limited time frame?
Do you have specific colours that you want to be included in the painting?
If so, examples or references to colours in other paintings or pictures can also be useful, but don’t worry—we can discuss these things when you contact me.
What is your budget? Let me know when you first contact me if your budget is tight. I might be able to help you decrease your costs. Look at the pricing structure below and see which best suits your budget.

Additional information

Taxes
For clients living overseas, please note that you will be responsible for any additional taxes and import duties. This information can be found via your local customs office.

Picture Frames
Frames are left for you to arrange afterwards with your local framer. This helps reduce production time and shipping costs, especially if the painting goes overseas. If you require any advice on which type of frame best suits your painting, I would be happy to discuss this with you during the commissioning process. However, I highly recommend that you discuss this with your local professional framers, who are more likely to give you much better information and advice.

Important notes to understand about commission process and agreement:
Once an agreement has been made, the commission process has begun, and materials have been ordered, the 50% deposit is non-refundable.

Pricing Guide

This is an average price guide for 2024. Please note that prices may vary for each commission depending on the subject and its complexity; for example, if a portrait is to have more than one person in the picture, then each additional person would be costed accordingly.
